I’m finding out/being told about new gear all the time at the moment! A customer has just brought these new Agile Headless Bridges to my attention.
If you aren’t familiar with Agile Guitars, they produce a range of, what I would say are, standard models of guitar and a “custom works” range. Check out the Agile Hawker Headless! Rondo Music is the sole distributor of their guitars for the US market. Now, Rondo Music have for sale the exact hardware used on the Agile Headless builds.
My first thought was that they are very, very similar to the ABM Headless Single Bridges! In fact, they are so similar (the ABM is ever so slightly bigger), the only big difference is the material; the ABM pieces are made from Brass whilst the Agile singles are made from Steel.
Now, I do not have a problem with steel. At the end of the day, we all like what we like – if you are after that bright twang, steel is for you. No, my problem is with the price. Steel is notorious for being the go-to material for cheap parts and I just get the feeling that, for $29 (£23) a piece, these are possibly a little overpriced. For anyone in the UK, once you factor in postage, VAT and duty, you may as well have bought a set of the ABM Singles (£30 a piece).
However, having just said all of that, I’m not going to dismiss these parts straight away. I won’t be able to get hold of them myself (come on guys, no trade pricing?) so I’m going to have to rely on you to let me know how good or bad they are. I doubt I’m going to come across a guitar that’s fitted with them any time soon.
