The Higgins Peg Bender

The Higgins Peg Bender completely flips the typical B-Bender design on its head(stock)!

Most vibrato units (Bigsby, B-Benders, Tremolos) all come in the form of some kind of guitar tailpiece. Hipshot’s B-Bender, for example, sits on the strap button behind the bridge and uses a hip lever to bend the string. It’s only really the Parsons/Green B-Bender that deviates from this format as it’s fitted within the body of the guitar.

The Higgins is unique in a couple of ways; where it installs and how it bends the string. The part entirely replaces the existing B string machine head. I assume right and left handed versions are available depending on whether you have a 6 In Line or 3 by 3 headstock. The device bends the string using a wire attached to the guitar strap. As you push the guitar downwards, string device rotates and bends the string. It acts similarly to the Parsons/Green B-Bender where you also push the guitar downwards.

It appears that the Higgins is now no longer available to buy. There’s a few second hand models and a handful of guitars that have them fitted knocking about. Have you owned or used one? What did you think of it?
